Wanna go for trek?

Going Trekking?

"How hard can walking alone a trail with a pack strapped to your back be? Most first time trekkers start out with the notion that they are in good health and something as simple shouldn't require exceptional skill or conditioning. The truth is carrying that backpack and walking up a hill or down it does require some amount of planning, the right equipment and pain old common sense. There are no strenuous physical and mental exercises that you need to undergo to get ready for that trek. There are however, a few simple things you should know before you head out towards the hills."

Can you handle it?

if you can walk, you can hike, but start with beginner-rated trails of a few kilometer or less and then work your way up to longer, more difficult hikes. In Nepal, there aren't really signs at the trailhead, or even a marked trailhead for that matter so make sure you start out on trails that you have definite information such as the length of the route about. Once you know the length of the trail, work it out in your mind in terms of a familiar distance. for example, how much longer or short is the trail than the distance from your home to your workplace? Once you have a good idea, gauge your time and effort accordingly.

The difficulty of any trek or walk depends on daily mileage (How much you can or want to walk every day), hilliness of the terrain, and altitude. Must walking trips, tailored for moderately active people, cover gentle terrain at low altitudes, and many have optional shorter routes. If you need a break, you can always skip a day and lounge around at the hotel or lodge talking to the locals and engaging perhaps in some photography. but on a serious trek, you seldom have a choice other than to make it to the day's destination. Altitudes about 14,000 feet or vertical gains of more than 2,000 feet per day demand excellent physical fitness. The good news is that you can have your fitness level assessed. If in doubt, be conservative, specially when it comes to the dizziness and shortness of breath associated with high altitudes.

Essential Skills

Skills needed for hiking apply to any outdoor sport. A course in basic first aid wouldn’t hurt, but at least know how to bandage a wound and to detect the signs of dehydration, heatstroke, and hypothermia. Learn how to read clouds; knowing a nimbus from a cumulus can be the different between a waterlogged hike and a merely cloudy one. Simple knowledge of such things can be crucial.

Gear UP!

Everyone needs a day pack; choose one with multiple pockets, padded shoulders straps, and large zipper closure. And make sure it's the right size: When properly adjusted, the base should sit on your hips and the top should be at least one hand-width below the base of your neck. The wrong size pack can give you a backache and even cause long term problems so give this special attention. Footwear designed specifically for hiking offers better support and traction. Choose a pair that's a half-size larger than your street shoes to allow for some swelling as you walk and to accommodate heavier hiking socks. Wear thick wool or synthetic blend socks designed to wick moisture away from the feet, as wet feet is the primary cause of blisters. Some things to keep in your day pack are: a first-aid kit, water bottle, Swiss Army knife, topographic map, compass, light blanket, and sweater.

Trek Talk

Hot Spot: That little tingle of friction you feel on your foot before you get a blister. Don’t ignore the feelings: Take off your boot and wrap your foot with protective medical tape before that tingling evolves into a full-fledged blister.

Loop Trail: A trail that starts at point A and circles back to the same point without repeating any section of the trail.

Scree Slope: A challenging slope of loose rock and shale or a rock that is formed from layers of clay.

Saddle: A trail stretched over the lowest point between two peaks, resembling a saddle.

Aiming off: Intentionally erring about 5 degree off-courses when using a compass bearing and heading toward your target destination. The benefit of aiming off is your will know exactly which way to turn to get to your destination when you reach the baseline.

"If you keep this information with you, you should be alright on your trip. But most importantly, head out with a serious intention to have fun and learn from the trip. Everything else should follow."

Happy Trekking!

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Tour Duration: 7 days or 12 days
Ghorepani Trek days : 4 days or 5 days
Trek grade: Easy
Max altitude : 3210 m
Trekking style :Lodge to lodge
Best Seasons: All through Oct - June
Minimum group size: One pax

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek has over the years been the bestseller among all our trekking tours. The breathtaking mountain scenery and the beautiful ethnic villages justify the popularity of Ghorepani trekking. The trek is easy, it has enough walking along streams and forests for those who are looking for a few days close to nature, yet it is not far away and involves no high climbing .You absolutely have no risk of altitude sickness on this trek. Ghorepani trekking can be done all through the year except during the monsoon.

The Ghorepani Poon hill trek is an immensely popular short trek to the Annapurnas. The trek starts from the beautiful Modi Khola river, after an hour of drive from Pokhara.Crossing the suspension bridge over Modhi Khola river, we ascend through ethnic villages and farm terraces enjoying the views of Machhapuchare peeking between the hills . On the second day we walk mostly through woods before we reach Ghorepani hill .Next morning we make an early climb of one hour to the nearby Poon hill for the spectacular view of the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna , Nilgiri and other famous mountains of the region.
The whole of Ghorepani is densely forested with rhododendron, the national flower of Nepal. Every spring it is tremendous scenery to watch these forests in bloom with the panorama of the high mountains on the skyline.

From Ghorepani we descend for the beautiful Gurung (name of a community) village of Ghandruk on the lap of the Annapurnas. The village is known for its traditional houses, rich culture and the great landscape. Walking down through the innumerable steps we make a loop at Birethanti and catch our vehicle for Pokhara at Nayapul .We trace back no part of the trail on this itinerary. On our whole trek, we use the mountain lodges called the tea houses for our food and accommodation.

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek combined with a two days of elephant back safari in the tropical Chitwan national park (5 hr of drive from Pokhara) makes an ideal Nepal holiday. You see a great number of wild animals and birds including rhinos, crocodiles, deers, peacocks, leopards and if lucky even a tiger. You will enjoy a canoe ride in Rapti river, visit baby elephants in elephant breeding centre and the safari trip will conclude with a bird watching tour – Chitwan national park alone has 450 species of birds! Back at Kathamndu we celebrate our Ghorepani hiking with a traditional Nepali dinner followed by ethnic cultural show.

UPPER MUSTANG

UPPER MUSTANG

Mustang, opened to foreigners in 1992, is by far Nepal's most restricted trekking area. It is located in the Northwestern area of Nepal, and is part of the Tibetan plateau.

This area has long been inhabited by Tibetan Buddhists and no where else in Nepal can such rich, untouched culture be found. Trekkers are not common here which is why this trek provides such a rare and up close look at a society that has remained unaffected by change for centuries. Unfortunately there is a high price to pay for such an experience. Permits are $710 per person for 10 days, $910 per person for 13 days and $70 per day thereafter. The permit fee for this itinerary is $1,050. The starting and ending point for all treks in the Mustang region is Jomsom, which can only be reached by plane. Trekking in Mustang is truly one of the rarest and most rewarding experiences to be had in Nepal.

Today we will take an early morning flight from Pokhara to Jomsom (2,705m/8,900ft), the administrative centre for the Mustang district of Nepal. En-route we fly between Annapurna I (8,055m/26,500ft) and Dhaulagiri (8,146m/26,800ft). From here it is a gradual climb to Tangbe (4 hrs). The trail climbs to 3,100m/10,199ft and then drops steeply to the banks of the Kali Gandaki. We will walk along the river bed crossing to the western bank before making a small climb to Chele.

It then descends a little to the village of Samar, altogether three hours from Chele. Between Samar and Geling the trail remains over 3,700m/12,173ft, so the group should be well acclimatized to camp in between. The first campsite arrives after two hours of climbing (mostly gradual), but only provides camping for a few tents. Another camp ground with nicer prospects is just one hour further.

Overnight stay in tents
Day 08Tsarang (3,500 m/11,515ft)
This is an easy trekking day of 11km (4 hrs) to Tsarang. After crossing Ghame Khola below Ghame, the trail climbs to a plateau and passes beside a very long mani wall. From the end of the wall the trail heads east to Tsarang, gradually climbing and then descending.
Overnight stay in tents
Day 09Lomanthang (3,700 m/12,173ft)

Day 13Tangee (3,240m / 10,656ft)
10 km (6 hrs): After an hour's walk from Tsarang, Kaligandaki is crossed at about 3,170m. The crossing point is at the junction of the Kali Gandaki and Dhechyang Khola. Trekking/Everest View

The Everest or Khumbu region is justifiably the most famous of all trekking and mountain regions. Populated by Sherpas, the attractions of this area are the majestic mountains, the high mountain villages, the isolated monasteries, and the local peoples. This area includes the highest mountain in the world, Everest at 8848m, and many of the world's 8000m peaks such as Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Makalu. First climbed in 1953, Everest still holds a fascination for many, however the Everest region boasts many more spectacular and beautiful mountains, as well as some of the most rewarding trekking anywhere in the world.

Everest View - Tengpoche monastery
Tengpoche monastery

The Everest View Trek
Whilst for many a visit to the foot of Mount Everest is a personal goal, for some it is enough to visit the Everest or Khumbu region and experience the culture, the people, and the spectacular scenery. The Everest View trek is a shorter trek than the Base Camp trek with the famous Tengpoche monastery at 3870m being the high point.

It is designed for those who wish to experience this region without ascending to high altitude. Entry to the Khumbu is by air into the airstrip at Lukla, and from here we follow the route of the Base Camp trek to Tengpoche monastery. From here we obtain breathtaking views of Everest as it rises above the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge, as well as a superb view of one of Nepal's most beautiful mountains, Ama Dablam - the 'Matterhorn of the Khumbu'. From here we return to Lukla by a slightly different route via Khumjung.

Visit nepal for trekking

Nepal Trekking is one long-term activity that draws repeat visitors to the country. Therefore, Nepal is the ultimate destination for the trekking enthusiast. Nepal offers a myriad of possibilities from the short and easy walking excursions to the demanding and strenuous challenges of the snowy peaks (mountain) and their foothills and valleys. But however easy or moderate, or strenuous, there is something for every palate that goes with trekking in Nepal's hills, mountains and hinterlands, the most rewarding way to experience Nepal's indomitable combination of natural beauty and cultural riches is to walk through the length, breadth and the altitudes of Nepal. Trekking in Nepal Himalaya is a much a unique cultural experience as well as an ultimate Himalayan adventure. You will share the trail with many pack animals and hard working porters who carry heavy load of supplies, much of which is consumed by trekkers.

Is trekking for Everyone?
Ask how strong are not your legs and how high can you not go? Wear a smile and have an attitude, and you are ready for any hills. Trek in groups, go with a guide and porters. Load your luggage on the porter, then walk and explore the mountains easily. Take a rest whenever you want to, let the porters cook your meal while you relax for an hour or two, and then again walk to Tent and for a good-night sleep. Wake up the next morning to do it all over again, or roll down the hills. Everyone can do trekking and everyone can find a hill waiting to be explored in Nepal.

Tea House Trekking:
Simply, The Teahouse trekking is guided walking and very popular in the well-developed tourist regions including Annapurna, Everest and Langtang – Helambu, where western cuisine as well Nepalese food (Dalbhat) is available. Overnight accommodation is in good, clean guest houses, lodges and hotels

Camping Trekking:
In a camping trek you will be accommodated in tents and all meals will be provide for you form the camp cook site. Toilet facilities will be provide in the form of pit toilets and washing facilities will be minimal. When organized by a company, everything will be provided for you as well as the porters to carry everything you need. Camping is a fun and social way of trekking esp. in large groups. If trekking independently on a camping trek, you should note that In populated areas you may be camping on sites near to tea house which means that toilets and showers may be available to you (you rent the site from the tea house for a small cost) and food and fuel supplies can be readily purchased or you can dine in a teahouse.. In remote areas you will be in the wilderness and no such facilities will be available, it is necessary to carry all required food and supplies with you. You should be well researched and prep pared on such trips. Though if trekking in a group a company will take care of everything for you.
